to me, stairs can be beautiful pieces of sculpture. more than just some functional pieces of architecture in your house. being timeless, pure and simple, the trick is to find a harmony between cold and warm materials, textures and objects. if you want to give your staircase an instant mediterranean look, keep your color palette white and add some old ethnic items in earth tones to your white minimalistic interior. or place some natural findings such as a big driftwood branch as an eye-catcher on the stairs. don't mind if this piece of wood is full of cracks or if it's weathered. it's the art of finding beauty in imperfection. combine with a big tropical plant if you have enough space, or with a nice kelim carpet, and for the rest: keep it simple and clean. can you feel the sunshine in your home? x valerie photo credits: 1.
